John Holman Bentley Williams | The BMJ

John Holman Bentley Williams was born in Eastbourne, where his father was a GP. He completed national service and was in the athletics team in the Royal Air Force, before studying medicine at his beloved St Edmund Hall in Oxford. John was in the Oxford athletics team as a hurdler and was at Iffley Road competing on the day Roger Bannister ran the first four minute mile in 1954.
